Bennett Lawson serves as the Democratic Committeeperson for Chicago’s 44th Ward, where he works to strengthen grassroots organizing, expand voter participation, and advance Democratic values throughout the community. A longtime political organizer and public servant, Lawson is dedicated to building a strong Democratic Party infrastructure in the ward—supporting candidates with proven records of community engagement, fiscal responsibility, and real progress on advancing equity, inclusion, and safety for Chicago’s most marginalized communities. Through voter education, neighborhood outreach, and coalition-building, he works to ensure that residents are informed, engaged, and empowered in the political process.
Originally from Rockford, Illinois, Lawson moved to Chicago to attend Loyola University Chicago before beginning his career in public service with State Senator Carol Ronen and later serving nearly 15 years as Chief of Staff in the 44th Ward office. His experience in community organizing, constituent advocacy, and Democratic politics has shaped his commitment to electing leaders who reflect the values and priorities of the neighborhoods they serve. Lawson currently also serves as Alderman of the 44th Ward, but his work as Committeeperson remains focused on strengthening the Democratic bench, uplifting diverse voices, and helping elect leaders who will deliver meaningful results for working families across the ward.
